Yesterday, all Fifth Year Students attended the Fractured talk, facilitated by Padraig O'Hora, from the Mayo Mental Health Association. The Fractured talk is an educational talk for Senior Cycle Students, which discusses resilience building, and steps that we can take each day to help build our own resilience, and deal with the challenges or stresses that life can present us with. During a very engaging talk, Padraig spoke about the importance of incorporating daily practices such as: Mindfulness - How sitting in stillness for as little as five minutes a day can help us to calm our minds and bodies when we experience any type of stress or anxiety - the more we practice, the better we become at observing what is going on around us, rather than simply reacting to it. Self-Awareness - Developing self-awareness and recognising how we show up in our interactions with others, how we approach life and how we see the world, and the impact that this may be having on our lives. If we want people to be there for us in our times of need, then we need to make sure that we show up for others as well, and this is how we build a Circle of Support around us. Self Belief - How we speak to ourselves and the stories that we tell ourselves have a great impact on us throughout our lives. Self Care - The importance of fuelling our bodies properly; moving our bodies daily through any type of exercise and of getting proper sleep - these all have a hugely positive impact our mental health. On Thursday March 13th CPA had a wonderful visit from the Heinrich Boll Association. Sheila Mc Hugh and Sean O'Malley spoke to our 5th year classes on Boll's work and legacy.
The students are participating in the Heinrich Boll Essay competition 2025. Lively discussion emerged on topics as diverse as echo chambers to body enhancements.
Sheila and Sean introduced the students to some intriguing ideas and inspired them to reflect on their proud Achill heritage and with the courage and resilience of their ancestors to push forward bravely into a new world.

Prizewinning students will be presented with their awards at this event by the German Ambassador to Ireland.
